Ghosts

We could have been something beautiful
That's what you say when you're mad
Be a good friend perform the rituals
That's all I ever asked of you

Kids with a dream to assimilate
We know that was round one
Adults separate worlds impossible to integrate
Call the cycle by it's name

But I'm the user
You're the loser
Living inside a broken picture frame

You're not another
Just the other
Person to play my sad story game

I bet you thought I was Polaris
Knowing damn well that I'm an heriss
We both were broken, I was fearless
We were younger, you were careless
All those beers out on my terrace
And tell me now are you embarrassed

That the ice you skated on
Couldn't control what we'd become
All the things we're running from
It's useless now because
You can't outrun
Your broken heart

Serve the tourniquet for my bloody wounds
That's the purpose you served
A lie lurks in all our backgrounds
What kind of life do you deserve

Ghosts are the only shapes in my head
And none of them are you
Just stop and realize that you made the bed
Please quietly lie the fuck down

But I'm the user
You're the loser
Living inside a broken picture frame

You're not another
Just the other
Person to play my sad story game

I bet you thought I was Polaris
Knowing damn well that I'm an heriss
We both were broken, I was fearless
We were younger, you were careless
All those beers out on my terrace
And tell me now are you embarrassed

That the ice you skated on
Couldn't control what we'd become
All the things we're running from
It's useless now because
You can't outrun
You broken heart

Two saddened souls don't make for a happy ending
Accept the fortune inside your cookie
The maddened men can't tame her running
I can see that you're still looking
But for what I don't know
You see the friendship that we had
Was tainted by you so
Now wherever I may go
Is a place you'll never be welcome to again

All I needed was a friend
And in the end
I'd rather go it
Alone

I'm the user
You're the loser
Lie the fuck down
Your broken heart out on my terrace
I want to be alone
